gov/ Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties **This is a non-exempt, hourly position without benefits, eligible to work up to 1,500 hours annually (May 1 – April 30).
** Ensures compliance with UI tax laws and requirements, reconciliation of the UI Clearing account, and proper posting of transactions and adjustments to the Virginia Unemployment Insurance System (VUIS).
Receives batch reports noting discrepancies (e.
g.
, closed or delinquent accounts, incomplete information, and quarter reporting errors) related to employers’ accounts and payroll tax information.
Audits reports; reviews data on file, conducts research and contacts appropriate parties to obtain additional information and/or advise of changes (e.
g.
, tax rate or payroll) , as needed; determines corrective action, documents necessary adjustments to reconcile batch with revenue and report count, submits request to update the VUIS, and reconciles keyed entry; ensures all monies deposited to the UI Clearing account have been properly posted to the employer account; and forwards audit trail and source materials to be microfilmed.
Reviews requests for changes to employer files from various VEC staff; determines solution; and prepares appropriate adjustments to implement change Submits requests to produce quarterly delinquent and semi-annual credit notifications; reviews subsequent employer responses; researches accuracy of tax accounts regarding proper allocation of credit and/or penalty and interest; determines appropriate action; and follows protocol to ensure cases are handled and information is reported appropriately.
Handles large volume of written and telephonic inquiries (e.
g.
, new and delinquent accounts, iFile/ESS and web based reporting, and penalty and interest notices) from employers, employer representatives and field staff.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices; the Unemployment Compensation Act; and related payroll tax reporting requirements.
Strong auditing, organizational, customer service, analytical, problem solving, and computer (word processing, data entry and spreadsheets) skills.
Ability to collect and analyze data; review and reconcile information; identify and request proper posting entry to resolve issues.
Ability to use automated systems to review and report information; operate a calculator and personal computer.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; work effectively with the public and agency staff; present facts in a concise, organized format; meet tight deadlines; and work independently and also as a team member.
Additional Considerations Experience working in tax (e.
g.
, computation, analysis, examination or reporting), accounting, finance, or payroll.
Experience working with accounting software programs.
