Position: Assistant Controller Location/s: North Chesterfield, VA Duration: Full Time – Direct Hire Shift: 1st Shift Schedule Pay Rate: To be discussed upon screening.
Benefits/Incentives: Paid Time Off, Paid Health Insurance Job Description: Responsible for assisting the accounting operations of the company, including the production of financial reports, maintenance of accounting systems, and comprehensive controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
Ensures that all activities are carried out in a safe, effective, and efficient manner to protect employees and the assets of the Company.
Responsibilities: Ensures timely and accurate financial reporting, manages cash flow and forecasting, provides periodic financial snapshots and both short and long-range analyses.
Maintains properly supported accounting system and records.
Implements and monitors effective key financial and operational controls; coordinates and monitors accounting department calendar and checklists to ensure timely reporting/compliance.
Responsible implementation of effective internal processes, accounting policies and procedures to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Monitors and reports on the efficiency and effectiveness of cash flow and P&L performance.
Reviews monthly reconciliations of the G/L to sub-ledgers as well as supporting documentation, ensures timely identification and resolution of differences.
Provides oversight of the Company’s balance sheet, revenue estimates, direct and indirect expenses, etc.
Oversees monthly accruals, fixed assets and allocation of balance sheet accounts and department expenses.
Ensures monthly closing and year-end closing activities and reporting are accomplished accurately and meeting established deadlines.
Participates in audits as required, directs activities of subordinates associated with accurate preparation and payment of all property taxes, sales tax, business licensing, etc.
Coordination and submission of financial information to external accounting firm for annual review.
Required Travel: Minimal (Occasional travel to other Divisions, travel for conferences, workshops, seminars meetings, and/or training) Required Skills and Experience: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting and/or equivalent with a minimum of 5-7 years related work experience, construction or rail industry preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP.
Superior ability to handle complex account reconciliations, budgets, reports, etc.
Highly proficient computer skills with ability to learn and use specialty software including Timberline and ViewPoint.
Highly organized, ability to identify problems and develop/present/implement appropriate resolution, self-motivated, takes ownership of their work and performs in a proactive manner.
Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
Must be capable of producing reports and associated paperwork accurately and efficiently.
Team player with ability to participate in planning processes and work with others to meet goals and objectives.
Must project positive and professional image when interacting with co-workers, customers, and vendors presenting an appropriate reflection of the company while responding to questions, seeking information, or managing projects/work.
Recognizes that work is often not accomplished in an 8-hour day/40-hour work week and puts in the effort and time necessary to meet deadlines and deliver quality results.
Good driving record; must reflect a total accumulation of no more than five negative points within the past three years, or a major violation within the past three years.
Able to read, write and speak English.
Must pass qualification tests as required (includes: ERail Safe and other training/safety programs).
Physical Demands: This position requires significant work at a desk, but also requires walking, talking, standing as needed to meet with employees, travel to various divisions, participate in meetings, etc.
Requires lifting up to 20 pounds (files/computers/etc.
) and bending Works extended hours as work load and deadlines dictate.
Ability to work well while under considerable stress/pressure.
