*Job Title**:* Bookkeeper *Work Location**:* ARGS – High School *Immediate Supervisor**:* Executive Director *Terms of Employment**:* Full-Time/12-months *General Description**:* Provides bookkeeping services for Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts & Technology (ARGS).
Performs a variety of moderately complex work within established procedures and standard practices.
Work is performed under general supervision without specific instruction and requires coordination with others at all organizational levels within and outside the school.
Considerable judgement and the ability to prioritize and organize work is required.
*Essential Job Functions:* To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty satisfactory.
Provides bookkeeping services for the school.
Balances and maintain the accounts for both appropriated funds and activity funds.
Prepares invoices to submit to accounts payable for payment and tracks status.
Provides status reports to the Executive Director regarding availability of funds.
Maintains the accounting system software currently used for school activity funds.
Collects activity fees for a variety of programs; records and reconciles all monies received.
Writes checks and prepares reports of monthly transactions for the payroll and finance department.
Prepares and tracks status of temporary work agreements.
Assists the office manager with ordering and maintain office supplies.
Ensure availability of funds for purchases.
Assists the executive director and the assistant director with the yearly budget process.
Prepares year end reports including year-to-date and audit reports.
Attends training sessions to stay informed of current and revised policies and procedures; ensures related policy and procedures manuals are up-to-date.
Assists the administration in training school personnel on proper procedures for receipting funds and requesting disbursements.
May perform the office management function in the absence of the office manager.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

*Work Environment:* Work is performed in a public school.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment.
The noise level in the work environment varies.
*Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:* Working knowledge of basic bookkeeping and general accounting principles and practices; of office operations and procedures; business English and mathematics and office equipment to include manual and automated filing systems.
Working skill in the use of a personal computer and adding machine.
Demonstrated ability to accurately perform mathematical calculation s and reconcile accounts; to assemble data and prepare reports; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to interpret and apply policies and procedures; to organize and prioritize work; to exercise judgement and to work effectively with all levels of personnel.
Requires excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing.
Demonstrates skills in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.
Demonstrates flexibility in areas of responsibility.
Salary is determined by a standardized scale commensurate with experience.
